Client Deployment and Setup



The following steps must be performed in order to provide access to Ostendo from a Local client machine. 

Prerequisite:


The Ostendo Program and environment must have already be setup in advance of any Client Deployment and Setup. The Protocol your site is using will determine how you deploy Ostendo


HTTPS Protocol

TCP/IP Protocol


Ostendo Installed on a Cloud or Local Server running HTTPS Protocol:

  • Create a new folder under 'C' Drive on your local machine called Ostendo_Continuum eg: C:\Ostendo_Continuum (This path helps avoid potential Windows security or user profile permission issues.)
  • An email would have already been sent to you containing your organisations database configuration .txt file. Save this file to the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • Download the Ostendo Client Configuration Utility program from https://www.ostendo.info/downloads/ostendo/ostendoremote.zip and Save this file to the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • Browse to the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder via Windows File Explorer and locate the download ostendoremote.zip file and unzip the contents into the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • From within the same folder locate the ostendoconfig.exe and right click and  select 'Properties'. Tick the Unblock box if this is visible.



  • Run the "ostendoconfig.exe" . Select the Utility Updates Tab. If the Installed Version is different from the Available Version for each file, select the Action button and Download & Update. If the versions are the same then move to the next required step.


Hint: 


    • Select the Ostendo Style Skins record first then select Action -> Download and Install then
    • Select the Database Update Utility record -> Download and Install then
    • Select Edge Browser dll then select Action -> Download and Install then
    • Select Client Configuration Utility then select Action -> Download and Install



If a new version of the Utility has been downloaded and installed, the following message will be displayed



  • Relaunch the ostendoconfig.exe


  • Click on the Companies (Remote) Tab and then press the "Load" button



  • Browse to the ".txt" file in the C:\Ostendo_Continuum\ folder and press the 'Open' button.



  • A confirmation message with then be displayed:



  • Now set the Default Company by pressing the "Set Default Company Button". Do this only if more than one database is configured. This sets the default database to log into on startup of Ostendo


  • You may also optionally tick the “Select Company on Startup” box to present you with a list of databases if you have multiple Ostendo databases defined





  • Go to the "Ostendo Updates" tab and dropdown the "Action" button and select "Download & Install". This will download the latest version of the ostendo.exe file to your C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder on your PC.



  • the following confirmation message will be displayed



  • Close the Ostendo Client Configuration screen


  • From the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder, create a Desktop Shortcut of the Ostendo.exe and name that Shortcut "Ostendo Continuum


   


Special Note - Datascreens:


If you are using Datascreens to run software add-ons eg: Time Capture etc.. please perform the following tasks to create an Icon



  • From within your C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder find the ostendo application file and copy and paste this


  • Rename the ostendo copied file to Datascreens


  • Create a Desktop Icon for this application and name that shortcut "DataScreens"




  • You are now ready to log onto your organisations Ostendo database


  • After launching Ostendo from the new Shortcut, type in your Ostendo user name and password. (these would have already been supplied to you)


Summary

  • You are now ready to log onto your organisations Ostendo database


  • After launching either the Ostendo or Datascreens icon from the new Shortcut, type in your Ostendo user name and password. (these would have already been supplied to you)




Ostendo Installed on Local Server running TCP/IP Protocol:

  • Create a new folder under 'C' Drive on your local machine called Ostendo_Continuum eg: C:\Ostendo_Continuum (This path helps avoid potential Windows security or user profile permission issues.)
  • Download the Ostendo Client Configuration Utility program from https://www.ostendo.info/downloads/ostendo/ostendoremote.zip and Save this file to the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • Browse to the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder via Windows File Explorer and locate the download ostendoremote.zip file and unzip the contents into the C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • From within the same folder locate the ostendoconfig.exe and right click and  select 'Properties'. Tick the Unblock box if this is visible.



  • Run the "ostendoconfig.exe" (IMPORTANT: Right Click on this file and select "Run As Administrator"). Select the Utility Updates Tab. If the Installed Version is different from the Available Version for each file, select the Action button and Download & Update. If the versions are the same then move to the next required step.


Hint: 


    • Select the Database Update Utility record first then select Action -> Download and Install then
    • Select Edge Browser dll then select Action -> Download and Install then
    • Select Client Configuration Utility then select Action -> Download and Install



If a new version of the Utility has been downloaded and installed, the following message will be displayed



  • Relaunch the ostendoconfig.exe (Run "As Administrator")



  • Click on the Companies (Local) Tab and then press the "Add" button
    • Enter your Company Name (ensure no spaces are included in this name)
    • Select an optional Company Colour to identify this database
    • Type in your Local PC Computer name (this can be identified from Windows Settings for this PC
    • Browse to the Database.fdb file
    • Press the Set Default Company. Do this only if more than one database is configured. This sets the default database to log into on startup of Ostendo
    • You may also optionally tick the “Select Company on Startup” box to present you with a list of databases if you have multiple Ostendo databases defined
    • Finally, Press the "Save" button



Special Note if running Both Firebird 2.5 and Firebird 5 on the same Local Machine:



  • Extract both files to your C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder
  • NB: Firebird .dll files are not required for Remote Companies 


Firebird 2.5 Database:

    • Specify the Firebird 2.5 Port number along with the Computer Name eg: BIPC01/3050 (where 3050 is the designated FB5 port number)
    • Specify the Alternate fbclient.dll field as FB_2_5_fbclient.dll


Firebird 5 Database:

    • Specify the Firebird 5 Port number along with the Computer Name eg: BIPC01/3051 (where 3051 is the designated FB5 port number)
    • Specify the Alternate fbclient.dll field as FB_5_fbclient.dll





  • Go to the "Ostendo Updates" tab and dropdown the "Action" button and select "Download & Install". This will download the latest version of the ostendo.exe file to your C:\Ostendo_Continuum folder on your PC.
